Brunch Is Not Good Enough For Mom

I❤️🍟 is closed on Mother’s Day every year so that our employees can be with their moms. I grew up a Mama’s boy and I encourage my three sons to love their mothers and respect other moms too.

Mother’s Day is tomorrow and restaurants & golf course club houses around the country are going to be packed with diners celebrating the matriarchs of the household, MOMS!

We all know what Mother’s Day is so I won’t go and pontificate about it, but allow me to tell you what brunch is. In 2024 the diner has to deal with rising food costs across the board. We know. We cringe too when we see how much it costs our customers. French Frys used to be cheap!

Our frys are actually the highest quality french fry that you can buy. The potatoes are stored in specialized atmospherically controlled rooms and they are hand picked from the rest of the bunch for meeting a long list of specifications that differentiate themselves from the “other’ potatoes. I can go on about this, and I will. In another blog though.

This post is about BRUNCH, remember. So let’s get on with it.

If you love your mother, and I know you do. Then consider why you’re taking her to brunch. Is it because she likes the food? Is it because she likes the atmosphere? Or maybe she just doesn’t really care about any of that and just wants to be with the family and brunch just so happens to be the place where it all comes together. It’s really all about spending quality time with mom.

Well, I would suggest you try something new and here is why.

The beloved brunch menu reminds me of every bad guy in Scooby Doo. Just when you think you know what you got, the mask comes off and you have somewhat of a surprise.

At closer look, the brunch menu will be the same food from the night before. Yesterdays left overs are today’s main course!!

The rookie chef(s) or the lowest on the totem pole (so to speak) is usually the one prepping the brunch. Last night head chef is at home relaxing for the evening. That’s not the issue at all thought.

Rookie chefs prep last nights food in different ways to present it as different food. Which is fine for most occasions, but for MOM COME ON!!!

If you pay attention to any restaurant you’ll see food truck deliveries once or twice a week. A lot of times this happens at odd hours, but what you will RARELY see is a truck delivery on a Sunday… before brunch. So what does this mean? It means that the brunch menu is the end of the line for a lot of this food. If it doesn’t get sold at brunch then it’s probably going into the garbage next. It’s the restaurants last ditch effort to make a return on the food investment. This is not a bad thing, its just how restaurants live.

What I am saying is “maybe” “consider” giving mom something more special than a brunch for Mother’s Day. Maybe invite her to your home and cook for her. BBQ for her. Heck, do something different, but equally enjoyable. Just maybe reconsider why we all go to brunch for Mom. Or don’t.

I literally felt like writing so I decided to write about brunch and Mom.
